POETRY.
Most days I'm emerald green-
full of life, vibrant, and loud,
wild, adventurous, and ready to go!
But other days I'm sea breeze blue-
quiet, thoughtful, and calm,
jade, separated, and still.
Both very different,
but both a part of me.
Tick, Tick,
it was 5:45 and i didn't want to wait any longer.
I was ready for him to be home,
ready for him to come walking in the door.
I was sitting in the couch,
eager to see those boots trudge up the stairs,
those boots that were so big, so strong,
nothing could stop them.
It was finally six o'clock,
and i could hear him walking down the back porch.
I was ready, I couldn't wait,
I hopped on his boots and we were off.
We danced around the kitchen,
twirling and whirling,
I was Daddy's little girl and nothing could stop us.
But I soon learned that something could stop us,
something that was uncontrollable,
and that would crush the invincible boots,
growing up.
Now at six o'clock the kitchen is quiet,
no more dancers,
just dirty work boots sitting alone in the corner.
Life is a roller-coaster ride.
The breeze in your hair,
your friends at your side.
The constant ups and downs
and the screams of laughter and joy.
And then it's is over.
The ride has stopped
and life is done.
It was short and sweet
but now it's gone.
He stood there shifting his weight
and squeezing his mommy's hand.
He was trying to be patient
but he couldn't stand waiting in line.
Last year he was just a baby
but this year, this year was different.
He was a boy
and he couldn't wait to tell his wishes.
He moved a few steps in line,
he was getting so close.
He could see that beard of silver,
the suit that glowed red,
the buckles of gold
and that hat that sparkled in the light.
Joy filled his eyes
as his turn arrived.
He trotted up the red carpet
and sat staring into those twinkling eyes.
wiki 5 20/20 - yay! someone got brave and reviewed Mr. S.!!! You're the first! I agree totally with all you said too! :-)
Nov. 6/wiki 5
Mr. Schlesselman was the speaker in chapel today and i thought he did a good job. he had a good voice volume, everyone could hear him, and he inflected when it was needed. his appearance was good, he's always dresses nice. he had good posture, he stood straight and didn't slouch over the podium. he maintained good eye contact with the crowd, he wasn't buried in his papers. he didn't move around a lot, he pretty much just stood at the podium and spoke. he appeared to be confident and he attempted to connect with all of us with his sports analogies. he used effective language, it wasn't over our heads. he maintained enthusiasm throughout his whole message. he was organized and well-prepared, and he didn't over use his notes. he ended well also, he related it back to the beginning and it all tied together, it was a good message.

Sept. 18/Week 5
I didn't like From Mother With Love because you knew the mother was going to die right from the beginning. it was boring to read because i already knew what was going to happen. Also i hated that the dad didn't tell the mom she was dying. if my husband didn't tell me that i had 3 months to live i would be very angry with him, and i wouldn't want to die being angry at my husband. it did touch my heart a little when the daughter found the Christmas presents because she realizes that her mother did in fact know that she was going to die, but i would have opened them up instead of putting them back.
Sept. 18/Week 5
if i found out that i had a limited time to live i would definitely have some things that i would want to do before i died: 1. learn to fly an airplane. (i have always thought it would cool to have my own plane and just go flying whenever i want to.) 2. bungee jumping and sky-diving ( just for the rush and to be able to say i've done it.) 3. Travel to Ireland, Paris, Italy, Australia, California, New York, Cuba, and many more. 4. get a tattoo, one that covers my whole entire back.(Depending on how old i am when i find out that i'm dying, if i'm like 30 than no this one will be scratched.) 5. go to a concert. 6. reteach myself to dance ballet. 7. take a yoga class. 8. buy a horse. 9. design a clothing line so that i will be known even after i'm dead. 10. go to the Ellen Degeneres show and be on the Price is Right.
wiki 5 - good job.. have to admit the last thing on your "bucket list" made me laugh - never would have expected the "Price is Right" to show up on a teen of today's list! :-)
Good work on the wiki.
Sept. 11/Week 4
I thought D.P. was okay. i felt bad that Karl had to be in an orphanage and had no idea that his parents were. i couldn't imagine how that feels.
In class we were voting on where we think Karl should go and my vote is stay in Germany. i think he will be more accepted there and he already knows the town and townspeople. Also, he only speaks German so it would be very difficult for him to move to the US and try to learn a different language. i think that he will have a better life if he stays in Germany, even though he knows that he is different, the people in his town aren't prejudice against him. if he wants to experience life in the US he should wait till he is older and can travel on his own.
Sept. 9/Week 4
I don't understand why our school didn't let us watch our president give his speech. There was nothing bad in it. It was just an encouraging speech and i thought it was good for us to hear. it lets us know that the president doesn't forget about us and that he still cares about our future. I enjoyed listening to it in class but i would have much rather seen President Obama himself reading it.
I liked reading Antaeus. I thought it was funny that a new kid could get the whole gang to start building a garden. i thought it was cute though. it was nice for a change for guys to be into something rather than cars or football. I didn't get why T.J. left at the end of the story though. I would have thought he would want to stay because he had made new friends. It just surprised me when he was gone for good.
Sept. 2/Week 3
Since we didn't read many stories this week i guess i am going to talk about how the projects are going. The essay that is due tomorrow i pretty much have done. i decided to go with #4, writing a sequel. i liked this one because it was the one that allowed the most freedom. i started writing a sequel to Sixteen and so far it's going pretty good, i think. the only thing I'm stuck on is an ending. i can't decide if i want to make it a happy ending or a sad one. right now I'm leaning towards sad. just because i think it will be more unexpected than if i go with a happy ending.
To be completely honest i haven't even started on project 4, the short story, I'm kind of a procrastinator. also i just haven't thought of anything to write about. i want to think of something really interesting. i know that i could choose to do the literary analysis but that just seems boring. so I'm open to any ideas that you might have about what i could write about.
Sorry... I can't decide that for you... and unfortunately this second entry is a bit short of 100 words.....
August 27/Week 2
Sixteen was your typical boy meets girl story. it was pretty obvious by the second day that he wasn't gonna call her. i just think it's dumb that guys can't think of a better line then, "i'll call you." if you do't want to see us again just say "well i had a nice time, bye." or something casual so that we don't get the wrong impression. when we had the class discussion and all the guys stood up that had done this same think i thought it was funny because all of us girls just looked at eachother and said the exact same thing, "guys not to date."
Since i had already read The Fall of the House of Usher i pretty much new what to expect. i do like the story and i also like Edgar Allan Poe because i enjoy reading horror stories. i like the project that we are doing on this book because its not the usual poetry its something different and we can be creative with it.
August 24/Week 2
I think i was the only one that didn't see the ending of Charles coming. While i was reading the story i began to think it was kind of boring but then it got to the end and i just laughed because I totally didn't predict that. But as we got talking in class i agree that some of Laurie's acting out came from having the new baby in the house. I think he felt as if he wasn't getting the attention he deserved and so he made up Charles so he and his parents would have something to talk about.
The Moustache was an odd story i thought. i would have never thought that Mike would go on pretending to be his grandpa. i can see that he was doing it for a good reason- to make his grandma happy- but i still thought it was weird. if i was in that situation i don't think i could lie to my grandma. i can understand why he would shave his 'stache at the end of the book, i wouldn't want to have the memory of the day at the hospital every time i looked in the mirror either.
Good job on Wiki 2! I appreciated your frank opinions! Don't worry, you weren't the ONLY one who didn't see the end of "Charles" coming! Other folks raised their hand too... it's a cute story. How's project #4 coming?
August 20/Week 1
I really liked A & P, I thought it was a good story and i liked Updike's style of writing. I liked it because it was about characters close to my age so it was relatable. I thought it was funny how Sammy described all the girls and how even he could notice that the group of girls had a leader. I wasn't expecting Lengel to tell the girls to put more clothes on the next time they came in, i just would have thought he would have liked the view just as Sammy and Stokesie did. In the end i don't think Sammy came out on top though because he lost his job and didn't get the girl so it was a lose-lose.
August 20/Week 1
I didn't like reading the The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky. I thought it was kind of boring and i didn't get why Crane would put the bride in the title but then not put a lot of details about her in the story. I didn't mind the way the story jumped around but it bothered me that the whole story was leading up to a gun fight and then there wasn't one.
I enjoyed reading Enemy Territory. I liked the relationship between the grandmother and Tommy and how she gave him the broom so he would feel confident. The inner story with Pablo was really good too. I thought it was a good story for the grandma to tell Tommy because it showed how Pablo got his point across without harming anyone. I was kind of disappointed when Pablo's story ended because i almost would have rather read a full short story about him then about Tommy, but i still enjoyed the story.
Good job on wk.1
