Nov 9th four poem

"Empty Fear"

I look inside to find nothing there,

I feel your breath on the back of my neck,

I turn around but nothings there,

I don't know what to do I'm so f***ing scared.

I wander around looking, looking till I see all.

I then see your soul sitting on the bench.

I yell and yell till my voice bleeds.

But you can't hear my cries.

"Connections"

Facebook and Myspace,

both connect the human world, both are loved for their own.

They keep you updated on day to day gossip,

they are always there to kill some time.

Once you start you get attached,

Just like a drug on the attack.

You always use them no matter what,

but mostly when you are sitting on your butt.

"The Bird"

The song bird sings soft,

no one hears it.

The song bird sings soft,

can anyone learn from it?

It sings the melody of its own,

Until you hear it no more.

Nov 9th second haiku (5-8-5)

Boy sits in his house.

He sees a fire in his yard.

Boy calls 911.

nov 9th third poem

"This Bliss"

I'm standing here at the party tonight,

I’m pretty drunk and I'm looking to fight.

I lost my shirt and I really don’t care,

Cause by the end of the night I'll be bare.

Were sitting down, and sitting on the deck,

I see a guy there kissing on your neck.

Its pretty sad cause hes 23,

Plus the fact that were only 17.

We got to make this last cause summers almost gone,

We got to  live it up because soon well be done.

Well probably never have night quite like this,

But that’s ok cause were all caught up in this bliss.

nov 9th second poem

"You have me"

It’s a new day, the sun comes up and you wonder why.

You sit there thinking about how you want to die.

Your wondering why parents always have to fight.

But then you see, that they can never be like you and me.

Now I’m in my room, and I know your scared, so don’t pretend.

Just keep in mind, the times when you were never down.

I know it hurts, but please endure and I’ll make sure.

Your never sad, cause I’ll never beat you like your bastard dad.

 november 9th first poem

"Leaving"

I can't stand your ways,

I can't count the days.

Till my dues are paid,

Then I 'll drift away.

I'm not coming home tonight,

I can't stand the fights.

What can I do so its right,

I have to get out of sight.

wiki 5 - good work. Liked your response to P.Barnes.

"D.P" Sept 14

How about the ending? Could it have REALISTICALLY ended any other way?

I don't think the ending of this story could have resulted in the other way because the seargent was moving through the wilderness of Germany going to fight to Berlin, the chances of him coming back, let alone living through the war were not very strong.  As a result of this, I don't think that he would have came back if he did live, I think he just said that to Joe so he would be at ease and would go back to the camp peacefully and wouldn't cry or anything of that matter.  I also think that if he did take him back to the states, he would have a better life.

"Patsy Barnes" sept 14

Can a 14 yr old school dropout reasonably expect success much less the respect of those around him?

I believe a 14 year old drop out probably wouldn't expect much respect from other people, but instead of just sitting around the house and not doing anything with his life, he managed to take care of his mother who was very sick.  He also managed to win in a horse race which is no easy accomlishment for a 14 yearold let alone a grown man.  So I think in this case it is reasonable that he recieved respect for his accomplishments.  But in a normal case of a 14 year old dropping out, he would not get respect.

"The Sniper" Sept 8th

What did you find yourself thinking about as you read this story????

I found myself thinking about how great of a story it is so far,  I really enjoyed the action and the narrators way of thinking.  He thought as if this was a do or die situation which it was but I like that he was determined to kill his enemy.  Towards the end of the story, the twist was kind of predictable because of the way the author was describing how the face of the enemy was covered, I was thinking that it was probably his best friend, father, etc.  But over all I kept thinking to myself how great of a story this was!

"There will come soft rains" sept 4

This story is unique in that there are no human characters. The protagonist is a house. Discuss what things Bradbury did with it to express his point about the future.

The way Bradbury portrays the future as being apocalyptic implies that he thinks the future will be grim. He shows this when he talks about how the nuclear holocaust caused the family to be burned onto the house in there last motions.  He also thinks that everything will be automated, this is shown from the house.  The house is completely automated and still does its jobs even when the family is dead.  I liked this story especially because of the house, it shows how technology isn't always a good thing.

Does this story fall more into the category of horror... or into the category of sci-fi? How do you think it stacks up compared to the original by Poe? Is it better or not as good? Why?

I think the story falls into the category of horror,  the reason I think this is because the story is more based off of all of Poes horror stories.  Another reason I find this story to be a horror is because of the sick demented side of it, all of the people are being killed in front of the main character while the robots behind him are laughing, I find this to be a little disturbing but altogether very entertaining.  I think this stacks up very well to the original by Poe.  Bradbury took it to a whole new level by taking the story to Mars and making all of Poes works come to life.  This is also the reason I find it to be better, mostly because of the fact that its just so disturbing, it makes it cool.

"The Moustache" August 25th

Your thoughts? Is it right or wrong for Mike to do what he does to (for?) his grandma?

I think this story was depressing because it gave the main character Mike some information that he may not have wanted such as the fact that his grandma had marital problems with her husband.  The reason I found this depressing was because no grandson or granddaughter wants to see their grandparents that way, they always want them to be the perfect person who brings them gifts or is always excited to see when they come to visit.  Mike's grandmother, brought a reality check to mike.  I thought Mike did the right thing in his situation because it gave his grandmother peace of mind to know that her husband forgave her and knew that she had always regretted accusing him of cheating on her.

"Charles" August 24

So what do you all think of this one? What's the "life adjustment" here?

I thought the story was a very good one because of two reasons, 1 the story itself draws the reader in because you want to keep finding out about Charles and his crazy antics, also you want to know how Laurie will be affected by Charles', will Laurie turn out just like Charles or will he be a good boy.  Also the fact that it was only 3 pages also was a plus for me.  But also the huge twist at the end that Laurie is Charles was much like the movie Fight Club or any other split personality twist.  I think the life adjustment in this story is for both the mother and Laurie, for the mother it is the decision on what to do with her son who obviously has a split personality or some sort of mental disorder.  Laurie's life adjustment will be much more drastic on his life I think because he is the one with the problem so it is pretty much up to his mother to decide what to do with him, either continue their lives or face Laurie's problem

Good job on Wiki 2! I appreciated your frank opinions! I agree "The Moustache" is a bit depressing, but you must admit that makes it a bit more realistic too, right? How's project #4 coming?

I moved the one above to the top of the page for you...always add your newest entry at the top... it saves me time in finding them! thanks - mrs.s

After you read part 2 of the story, comment on the story. I am particularly interested on what you think of Crane's style. Is he an entertaining author? I am also curious about how you feel this story compares in style to The Red Badge of Courage... any similarities or did Crane go in an entirely new direction?

In "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky", I think Crane's style is very interesting because I have never seen this kind of writing before, the scene to scene jump around is much like that of a Quentin tarentino film (++ good observation!) which there are many events going on at the same time such as the drummer hiding in the bar and Scratchy shooting at the bar.  I do think Crane is an entertaining author in this short story at least, it was a little slow starting out when the bride and Jack Potter where on the train but once we got to the bar scene and Scratchy's scene it picked up.  I think this short story is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum compared to The Red Badge of Courage because half of that novel was Crane describing things and wasn't very exciting in my opinion.

What would YOU have done in Pablo's situation? Would his situation even happen in 2007?

If I were in Pablo's situation, I would not have trashed the Irish bar for two reasons, one because I am personally a passive aggressive person, and secondly because if I were a minority in someone else's bar and I had no friends with me I wouldn't start a racket because then the Irish could then either beat me severely or kill me.  This situation could occur in 2007 because there is still prejudice and racism all across the world.  Also, some people don't like outsiders coming into they're bars or restaurants etc.  Also, it could happen to other minorities such as Muslims as a result of 9/11, many Americans are uneasy when it comes to being around them.
