wiki 5 20/20 - good post... lots of pros and cons in this one.

wiki numero 5 - 11/6/09

Pastor Clausing : Pastor Clausing is overall a very good chapel presentor. Although his chapels may get a little boing and may drag on and on and on at points. Pastor Clausing makes very good eye contact and does not focus on just one area in the gym. He is also pretty good at not using the words uh, um, and also annnndddd... Sometimes he gets caught up behind the podium and on occasion gets lost behind it. But he also makes up for it by making some hand gestures.  But that is also not good because he uses the same hand gestures are very repetitive. He also does not rely on his notes he has very nice rehearsed speeches and does not have many or any at all akward pauses. Pastor Clausing is ususally a very good speaker and does a very good job at keeping the audience tuned in and awake.

wiki 2 - 16/20 - good start.... a bit brief.. you are supposed to shoot for 200 words

10/16/09

Mr. Kuhlmann : Mr.Kuhlmann is a very good public speaker. He is good at keeping everyone's attention so that no one gets bored and spaces out. He has good posture and has a good use of his gestures. He does not overly use them though he uses them just enough to keep the attention but doesn't draw an extreme amount of attention to them. He also has very good eye contact even though the gym is not an ideal place to have a speaking gig. He also had good movement which  ultimately helped him connect with the audience. And he also appeared VERY confident.

Short Story :

Club 805
There it was, the kiss that sealed their happy ending. It was as magical, and perfect as could be. Oh I'm sorry I didn't see you there, let me start from the beginning. My name is Aeriella I'm a guardian angel, Isabella Summers' guardian angel to be exact. I have watched over her since she was born. I have been there for everything from her first steps to her first day of school even up to her first kiss. I have kept her out of danger's way, you see she is an adventurous little thing always trying new things. She is now twenty-two living away from her parents with her three roommates, Jenny, Sarah, and Emily. These three have been best friends ever since they were in diapers together. All three were accepted into the New York Institute of Fashion Design last fall and have started new internships throughout the city for some "hooty tooty" high name fashion designers this summer.
Isabella, Izzy for short, has been having a good time with her friends in her new city for the past year with school and her new internship going awesome at Marc Jacobs. But as days and weeks passed something always seemed to be missing. Izzy always watched all her friends go out with different guys almost every night of the week. It wasn't that she didn't get asked out because being a former Miss Tennessee she was a beautiful girl. She just never found the one the she really wanted to settle down and get to know. That's what Izzy was looking for now she had the job and success that she always wanted but no one to share it with. Although Izzy was always busy with social functions and "odds and ends" at work she wanted a guy in her life. So one night she called a house meeting with all the girls.
"As you guys know I get really jealous of you guys when I come home to you guys and your boyfriends or flavor of the week snuggling on the coach or flirting over dinner. I have finally come to terms with everything in my life and I want a man too! So will you guys help me, Please!!"
"Of, course we will!" All three girls chanted together. "Lets get started right now!"
"Okay? How would you like to do that?" Izzy said back.
"Go put your cutest dress on and get all dolled up and us four will hit the town on a man hunt like old times!" Jenny replied excitedly.
Izzy didn't waste anytime she ran upstairs faster then anyone had ever seen. She got straight into the shower and then got all dolled up just how Jenny had instructed her. She looked phenomeonal! The other three were waiting patiently downstairs when she was done. As they made their way downtown in the squashed taxi Izzy's excitement grew! Finally they reached their final destination, Club 805. This was the new hot spot in town that only the prettiest girls could get into. As the four approached the rope they were quickly wisked into the club. There was hundreds of guys all around the club, from ones who looked like average joes to others who looked lik a million dollars. The "Fabulous Four" as they liked to refer to themselves as hit the dance floor. Men approached then left and right but the girls didn't mind one bit, they loved the attention. But there was one that caught Izzy's eye. He was on the outskirts of the dance floor near the bar. Emily saw her checking him out shly adn erged her to go make small talk, so she did. She walked shyly up to the man.
    "Hello."
"Hello. Would you like to sit?" He said polietly.
"Sure, why not?" She said back. He stood up from his stool.
"My name is Charlie. Might I ask what yours is ma'am?" He said with a cute little southern accent.
"Sure. My name is Isabella but you can call me Izzy for short. Nice to meet you." Izzy said with excitment building up inside her.
" Where are you from?" Charlie replied.
"Tennessee. What about you. Do I hear a hint of a southern accent there?" She said smiling.
"As a matter of fact I am also from Tennessee. Nashville to be exact."
"Might i ask why you are up here?"
"Visiting some friends. Who I believe have meet your friends." He said sweetly.
"Ha ha. That they have." The two watched the two groups of friends chat amongst themselves.
Charlie and Izzy continued their converstation and made plans to see each other the next afternoon for a lunch date. As the end of the night came creeping up on them they exchanged phone numbers and "see ya tomorrows".
The next morning Izzy woke up excited for her date to start. And before she knew it, it was lunch time. She arrived right on time at a little cafe called Red Hearts which was on the corner of Eighth St. and Broadway. He was already there and was sitting at a table when he saw her, his eyes brightened and he stood up to greet her. He said "Why hello there" and handed her the prettiest flowers she had ever seen. She politely said hello and thanked him for the flowers. As their lunch continued they talked about everything sharing laughs and stories of their childhoods. His southern accent and charm really caught her attention. That was exactly what she had been looking for all along a man who would treat her the way she was supposed to be treated. Charlie was fasinated by her and could not believe that a beautiful girl as Izzy could be so down to earth and like him. Once he got up enough courage he asked her out again that same night. She politely accepted.
Many thoughts raced through her mind the rest of the day but all was finally good she could not stop thinking about that sweet southern boy who she was crazy about. Her day went by so fast and she was so excited for her date that night. She raced home after work. After she had gotten all dolled up she met up with Charlie yet again. He took her on a picnic this time, her favorite thing to do when she was little. To make this date even more perfect Charlie finally did it! He asked Izzy to be his girlfriend! She accepted the offer. She had fallen in love and she knew it instantly. This was exactly what she had been waiting for, for so long.
Before to long Charlie had to return home to Tennessee but the two lovebirds talked all day everyday sending and recieving cute little texts from one another. One weekend after the pair had been dating for a couple months, Izzy packed her bags and went to visit both Charlie and her family she made the decision that it was time for him to get introduced to them for the first time. They were both overjoyed.
Izzy walked up the front step and through the doorway first, Charlie right behind her. The two walked throughout the house as she called, "Mom! Dad! Where are you guys I have someone I want you to meet!" "We are in the kitchen, dear!" She heard back. As they walked though the dining room and into the kitchen Charlie became a little nervous.
    "Hello Honey!" Said her mother.
    "Hey Mom!" Izzy replied.
"Who is your friend darling." Her father chimed in.
" Mom,Dad this is my boyfriend, Charlie."
"Well hello, Charlie." Her mother turned to Charlie with a warm smile on her face.
"Hello Ma'am, Sir." Charlie said polietly to each of them as he shook her father's hand.
"Nice to meet you, son." Izzy's father said as he folded his paper.
Izzy's mother took Izzy into the other room and started asking a few motherly questions.
"He is a very nice young man! I think he is perfect for you! How long have you two been seeing each other?"
"He is amazing. Its been 6 months. I am falling in love with him if I am not all the way there now!!" Izzy said excitedly.
As Izzy and her mother continued their conversion. Similar things were going on in the kitchen with Izzy's dad and Charlie. Except there was one very important question that Charlie finally asked Izzy's father. "Sir" he started. "I was wondering if you might let me take your daughter's hand in marriage?" It finally came out. "Well son, I think you are gentleman and treat my daughter with the utmost respect. And I also noticed you look at her the same way I looked at her mother at your age right before I asked her father. So my answer is yes. But son let me tell you what if you break my little girl's heart you are not going to like the consequences!" Her father replied. "Thank you, sir. There is not a chance in the world that I would ever hurt Izzy!"
The next morning the couple went on a boat ride on the lake behind Izzy's parent's house. Charlie was ready he had the ring and everything. He just waited for the perfect moment. Then out of the blue he just took her hands and said, "Baby, you know I love you more then anything in the entire world and would give my life for you! Honey, Will you be mine forever? Will you marry me?!" Tears started streaming down Izzy's face she was filled with happiness and joy. She finally got it out, "YES!!!"
As the coming months flew by they planned their fairy tale wedding. The wedding was scheduled for April 24th everything was ready to go. She had everything booked and set up. She even had her dress. Her boss, Marc Jacobs, gave her a stunning wedding gift. He gave her one of his favorite pieces, the most gorgeous wedding dress he had ever created, it took her breathe away.
It was finally the day, April 24th, wedding day. Both Izzy and Charlie were extremely excited. She had her dress and looked gorgeous. He looked amazing in his tux. Nothing could go wrong on their perfect day. And finally came the best part of then entire day. There it was, the kiss that sealed their happy ending.

Week Five

Entry Two - 9/17/09

wiki 5 - Great job on your posts both this week and last. You have a lot of interesting ideas and I enjoy hearing them. Your story idea sounds neat... I don't think too many people are doing a romance or a fairly tale.

I have begun thinking about what i am going to write my short story about. I believe it would be fun if I wrote a fairy tale or a romantic short story since everyone else I have spoken to has chose to write a scary story. The main character's name is going to be Isabella. It is going to be set up in the present day and age and will be written in first person narrative. That's all I have decided on so far!

Entry One - 9/17/09

I just handed in my second essay literally two minutes ago. I chose to rewrite one of the stories in first person. It was a long night to say the least but I didn't really mind it all that much. Once I got going it wasn't that difficult! It ended up being eight pages of pure loveliness if I do say so myself. I hope I do well on it since I spent so much time on it!

Week Four

Entry Two - 9/10/09

I am going to go "out on a big Limb" here and also invite you to comment on the reading of the Speech to America's Students that I presented in class on 9/8/09. I hope it was evident that I was trying to tie it to our new theme on "pre-judging" things and/or people plus it fit rather nicely with our discussion the other day about censorship. I will be interested to hear what you have to say on the topic as we really didn't allow a lot of in class discussion time. I hope everyone will feel welcome to express their views on the wiki if you so choose.

In all honestly I do not see why this speech was such a big deal and why parents got so upset at the fact that the schools were interested in showing it the kids. Its not like Obama is supporting drugs or illegal things. All he was trying to do was jumpstart young children on the path way to a successful life! And if it were that big of deal to parents they could have just requested that their specific child was not present at the showing of the speech so that they did not have to deprive all the rest of the children whose parents may have actually wanted their child to hear it!

4. Many "experts" claim  that EDUCATION is the secret recipe for success.... then how do we explain people who get college degrees but still live in their parents' basement? Or people who have advanced degrees and FAIL in life? What are the other factors that must be present for success? (Also how do you explain a guy like Bill Gates who dropped out of college to "tinker" with computers???)

Education is not the only part in the secret recipe for success there are many other things in life that contribute to it such as hardwork and honesty! In this story Patsy may be a drop out but he came back into the equation with alot of hardwork, integrity, and drive! Many people may have gotten a great education but not had the social skills and drive that others may to put things together and get on their feet as quickly as others and that makes for the ones who live in their parents' basements and those who generally fail in life. It takes alot more then education to really jump start your life and your success! And I  think if you really work hard at something even if you don't have the "qualified" education you can still be successful in that area!

Week Three

Great job on wiki 3!

Entry Two - 9/3/09

Just more comments about class.  This is probably one of my favorite classes this year! I am really enjoying it! I usually hate english classes i get really bored and really dazed out but in this class i actually pay attention and do the work i am supposed to. (except for that one wiki i forgot to do :(..) But i hope class continues on the way we have been going on with it because it has been so much fun!

Thanks for the compliment... I am glad you're finding it interesting! Will do my best to keep it that way!

This week we had to write an essay. I like how Mrs. Staude set it up and gave us some many possiblities so we could choose one that prefectly fits what we know the best. I chose the essay prompt that has to do with comparing a story to something that actually happend with our own lives. I had similarites to the story The Moustache. Because just like Mike i have a grandparent that doesn't always recognize me. But it was an esay write and i actually didn't mind writing this essay which is a big suprise because i usually strongly dislike writing essays!

<No entries for week two?... bummer!>

Week One

Entry two - 8/21/09

These are just some general comments on class. I am not going to lie at the end of junior year I was not excited to be taking another english class my senior year but now that I am taking English Symposium I really enjoy. Mrs.Staude you keep the atmosphere very light and fun and that is something that i deffintly like. This is by far my favorite english I have yet to take. The activity we did the other day with the "talk show" was an interesting way to go about finding out more about the story and the characters it was a good alternative that was very fun. I look forward to see what we get our hands to in the upcoming days, weeks, and months in the class!!

Entry One - 8/21/09

Was Sammy a "winner" or a "loser" for making the choice he made in the story?

In my opinion he was both a "winner" and a "loser". Some traits that made him a "loser" were that he didn't get the girl, he ended up quitting his job which means that he would not have any income of any sort, and also because in the end him parents may have been a little upset with him when he got home that evening. But on the flip side he was also a "winner" because he took a stand against Lengel and his rudeness to the girls even though they may have not even realized it or cared which means in a way he also defended the girl. So in the end he did a good thing and stood up for what he believed even if it was only to impress the girl.

Good work on wk. 1 - I am glad to hear you're enjoying the class... you have many good ideas in here!
