Man Down
"Man down! Man down!" I hear from across the deserted street as I open my eyes. I hear explosions and gun fire coming from the distance. I get up slowly to see what was happening when I hear again "Man down! Man down! Bobby has been shot!" I freeze and realize that is my signal, I need to get to Bobby. I am the only medic in the platoon left. All the others were K.I.A or were sent to aid the rest of the company on the far side of the city.

I get up to one knee and peer over my cover of rubble and see the rest of my squad in the cafe across the street. I signal to them asking if its clear to move forward. They give me the go ahead. I get up and run as fast as possible. I make it there without a scratch but arrive to see a scary sight. I see Bobby laying on the ground unconscious with a bullet hole in his side. He looked pretty bad, I didn't think he would make it.

I wrap the wound and put pressure on it to try and stop the bleeding but nothing was working. I am not capable of patching up this bad of a wound. I need to get Bobby to the field hospital. It is only 2 miles to the south of the city, but the path is lined with insurgents. It isn't possible to get him there but i have to try.

I look at Bobby and I start asking my self if it is worth the risk. Could he be saved? Should I stay here and hope my poor field patching will keep him alive long enough to get help? No, I need to try. I stand up and look at the surrounding buildings and streets. The street gong south is blocked by a fallen building. I would have to go building to building with Bobby on my back. This will be very dangerous because I will have no way of protection with Bobby on my back.

I go to Bobby and throw him over my shoulders. He is a smaller guy so I can carry him fairly easily. I walk to doorway and look out. The area looks fairly quiet. So I run across the street and enter a building. I set Bobby down and scout the building by myself room by room. The building was clear so we kept moving.I threw Bobby over my shoulder and continued going building to building trying to get to the field hospital.

About half way to the hospital i hear start hearing laughing and yelling coming from a near by building. I wasn't sure who it was or what they were doing but I was going to have to bypass them just in case.I would have to go into the street to get around the men. This frightened me because I was target practice out in the street but it had to be done to keep our cover low. So I enter the street with Bobby still unconscious over my shoulder. I walk slowly along the side of the building the men were in. I start to hear the voices and find out they are Iraqis. So i have to be extra careful now.

I keep walking around the building trying to stay low as possible. I turn a corner and a man with an AK-47 smoking a cigarette is standing with his back to me on guard. My heart stopped. What do I do? I quietly sneak back around the corner and look for away around. But there isn't another way. I either go through the building with multiple hostiles or take out the one guard. I put bobby down slowly and quietly. I pull out my knife and sneak slowly around the corner. I see the man standing no more than 10 feet away from me. I must attack fast and quiet.I take a few steps forward watching him constantly. I get within five feet undetected. I bring my knife up and stab him in the back I bring him down slowly and silently. I hide the body in a bush and go get Bobby. I pick him up and continue on through the street. I quietly get passed the men in the building and make my way into the cover of buildings again.

I am only about a mile away now. I got one more apartment building to go through till I am in view of the base. I walk into the building and set Bobby down.I go through the routine of checking to make sure the building is clear. I am almost done when I hear someone start to talk. I look back and it sounds like it is coming from Bobby's direction.I slowly walk towards his direction and find three hostile soldiers standing over Bobby. I needed to get bobby out of there. I pulled out my knife and started creeping close to the men. I was undetected but I needed to move fast because I was in the wide open. I sprinted towards the men with all my power and lunged at two of them. I stabbed one and knocked the other to the ground. I pulled out my knife and wrestled with the mine I tackled. Eventually the third man came to help his friend and I was out numbered. I was able to kick one of the men off of and get to my feet with the knife still in my hand. Both men were unarmed but they were much bigger than me. I needed to use another tactic. So I decided to try and scare them so I charge at the two men with my knife. I stabbed one and fell to the ground. The second man was frightened and ran out the building.

After I got my breath back I stood up and picked up Bobby. I was now home free. Nothing was left to stop me from saving Bobby's life. I walk out the building and see the American flag in the distance above the hospital. I sighed a breath of relief and walked towards the safety of the hospital.

wiki 5 - wow! you must REALLY love sports! So much of your bucket list is related to sporting events.. and some GREAT events too! I have done #2 - but now there's an even bigger coaster than the one I rode. (but at the time I rode it - it WAS the tallest and fastest- very cool!) I think swimming with whales or dolphins would be FANTASTIC... you can do that at Seaworld and I am told you can now swim with Beluga whales at the Shedds Aquarium in Chicago!

Week 5

September 18

1. Ten things to do before I die:

     1. Go to a Super Bowl

     2. Go on the world's tallest rollercoaster

     3. Skydive

     4. See a New York Giants game

     5. Be at an Olympic Opening Ceremony and watch them light the torch

     6. Go to a soccer World Cup Finals game

     7. Fly past the sound barrier

     8. Go in space

     9. Swim with Blue Whales

     10. Go to the World Series while Cardinals are in it

2. The situation in Mother with Love is a situation that i wouldn't want to be in. If i was dieing from a terminal disease I would want to know. I would want to be able to tell everyone how i feel and do the things i want to do before I die. I would want to go out with a bang. I want to be remembered and if I know that im going to die than I could get these things done.

Week 4

September 11

1. President Obama's speech to the nation about school was pretty good speech but he made a few mistakes.  I thought it had some good points about staying on school and working hard but i think he might have crushed a few dreams when he said that becoming a pro sports athlete is unrealistic. If a kid wants to dream and work hard towards a professional athlete career then let him, don't tell the kid it is unrealistic. Yes the odds are against him but it is never out of reach if you put your mind to it. I just think that statement was a mistake by the President.

2.

Week 3

Great job on wiki 3!

September 2

1. The challenged books list was very interesting. I find it funny how uptight some americans can be about suggestive behavior in tv, movies, and book. Books like James and the Giant Peach and Harry Potter seem like completely harmless books to me. All people know they are fiction so why do they care that much? Movies and books arer a form of art. It takes a skilled and artistic mind to make them. If people complain about books that have suggestive behavior, why dont they complain about the beautiful pieces of art in museums that are completly nude?

2. What do you think about the premise of the future which said "Every man must face reality." (p.111) thus saying that man is "better off" without fantasy, imagination, and fiction. Do you agree or disagree?

A person without fantasy, imagination, or fiction makes for a boring and underachieving life. I believe without an imagination or fantasy you can't achive what you really want in life. Many major achievements in life start from a fantasy and you start making some baby steps to make that fantasy a reality. I fantasize about being a professional football player, I probably will never make that fantsy a reality but working hard to achieve that goal will only bring me to good places.

<NO POSTS THIS WEEK... that's disappointing. You are digging holes you may not be able to pull out of, Ryan, just be aware of that.>

Week 1

August 21

The story A and P was very interesting to me. It brought up a very controversial topic. The way teenagers get stereotyped in society is wrong. Many people treat teenagers as inferior beings or like small children. There is a time in every persons life were they should start being treated like an adult. And most of the time it is different for everyone, but by the age 16 or 17 teenagers should have the insight and life experiences to be treated like an adult.

Only 1 entry this week... you need two. 10/20.
